Pumpkin spice and apple cider donuts are officially in season!!!
Summer has come to a close and Autumn is in full effect, days become shorter than the nights and the sun rises later as nightfall arrives earlier. I have been speaking on how powerful this seasonal shift is for over a month now. The reason being is that yes, we have season changes year round but the change from Summer to Fall is the heaviest.
Summer is the season symbolizing joy, its carefree, light and free spirited. I know we all feel that, the moment the temperatures rise, we crave dining al fresco and all the sand between our toes. The season of Autumn, no matter how joyous it is to pick apples and eat all the donuts, it symbolizes the energy of grief. This is due to the cycle of mother earth, she spends all year growing and nurturing to be at her peak growth during the Summer but during Autumn, she honors the cycle and all of her years growth begins to die, prepping for the transformative season of Winter.
Now, you’re probably thinking, thanks for being a buzz kill to my Autumn excitement haha this is just the energies and remember, we choose how we want to feel and the energy we portray in the world off our mats!
In order to remain in balance and stay grounded, follow the cycle of mother nature, we are her direct creation so it only makes sense we follow her lead. Nourish yourself by eating seasonally, grounding roots and veggies, foods to bring in and maintain warmth. Move slower, participate in activities to bring in more awareness of your body, maybe try our Renew or Yin + Nidra to slow it down a bit, you won’t regret it.
Most importantly, we are in a society of crossing things off our to do lists, jumping from one activity to the next and multitasking. Make a vow to slow it down in honor of the season, take an extra few breaths when you wake up in the morning, come to class and onto your mat early to let the dust settle and make time for yourself, even if it is a few minutes each day.
